One in three wants lower taxes...
in Sweden. That's the front page story in Sweden's second largest morning paper today. It's a conservative paper, so they couldn't make themselves say that more than 50 percent of the Swedish people - despite living under an overall 50+ percent tax takeout - does not want lower taxes.
37 percent want lower taxes, 52 percent don't want lower taxes, and 11 percent don't know what they want. There's a clear gender gap here: 46 percent of the men want lower taxes while 44 percent are against it, while only 28 percent of women are for, with a whopping 59 percent are against it.
Even in the conservative party, 30 percent of its members are against cutting taxes. Is that interesting or what!?
Here in Taiwan, I pay a 6 percent income tax, and I think the overall tax takeout is 13 percent. The government loses money every year, and more and more of it, too -- and people still want lower taxes, a social security system with free health care, and a pension system. Go figure.
