Watching America
I received a phone call in the office the other day from a former editor here at the Taipei Times. He has since moved on to Europe and then again back home to the US, where he started a website together with another guy, watchingamerica.com. It seems to be going quite well for them, and he told me that he had the CNN crew over for four hours the other day. They have also been in a couple of newspapers and on a couple of radio stations.
What they offer is news about the US in foreign media, articles translated into English and published on their site. The idea, of course, is to let Americans know what people in other countries think of the US and thus gain an understanding as to why not everyone thinks the US is as good as the Americans themselves think.
