Turn of phrase
I'm just reading "The Master" by Colm Toíbín, a book which I dont' find as compelling as his other four works of fiction (which I all have read and simply love), although most reviewers seem to see this as being among the better of his normally already outstanding works. Maybe it's because I have never read anything by Henry James, the central character of the story.
No matter. I came across this wonderful phrase yesterday: "He was suspended as a caught breath."
And a couple of days ago I came across this gem in a short story in the February issue of Prospect:
"The man's accent was local but it carried a trace of American. Like the ice in his whisky it chilled some of the warmth out of his voice. "
And a nice line from a PJ Harvey song (This is love):
"I can't believe life's so complex
When I just wanna' sit here and watch you undress "
