Earthquake
Another earthquake yesterday at noon. 7.0 on the RIchter scale. We were both at the gym, me in the basement, and Lady D on the fourth floor. I felt a good jolt, but didn't think it was that bad. Quite long, yes, but not too strong I thought. But then, I was in the basement. Lady D came running down asking whether we should go, she was afraid of aftershocks. On the fourth floor it had swayed considerably, with things coming down off the walls.
7.0, 110km off the east coast and 56km below the seabed. They weather bureau, in charge of natural disasters, I guess, gave a useful comparison: It had the strength of 16 nuclear bombs. What does that mean? They also said that the big one in September '99 had the power of 40 to 50 nuclear bombs.
Interesting week. First a fire, now an earthquake. Wonder what's next.
